Public scales on I-40 in eastern New Mexico (Tucumcari & Glenrio)
Two CAT Scales verified on the operators’ own location pages on I-40 between Santa Rosa and the Texas line: Love’s #262 Tucumcari (Exit 333) and TA Glenrio #0471 (Exit 369, right at the state line). Useful for U-Haul and PPM moves to or from Amarillo and Cannon AFB country, RVs and fifth-wheels on old Route 66, and horse and stock trailers crossing the eastern plains. West, see Moriarty / Santa Rosa / I-40 and Albuquerque / I-40 · I-25.
This page lists 2 places to weigh near Tucumcari & Glenrio, NM: 2 CAT or truck-stop scales. They are in Tucumcari and Glenrio. 2 are listed as likely to print a certified weight ticket, the kind PPM movers and RV owners checking weight ratings usually need. CAT platforms have a 2,000 lb minimum and do not give corner weights.
Filters hide cards, not industrial rows. CAT will not weigh under 2,000 lb — use a dedicated house for cars and empty utility trailers.
No verified dedicated public scale house on I-40 near the Texas line yet
We have not found a walk-up public scale house in Tucumcari, San Jon or Glenrio with an operator page we can cite, and ScaleRegistry’s public-weighing page lists none in New Mexico. We are not inventing one from feed lots, gravel yards, landfill gate scales, or third-party trucker directories. Both stops below are CAT Scales at truck stops, verified on Love’s and TA Petro’s own location pages.
CAT Scales on I-40 in eastern New Mexico
We list only stops verified on the operator’s own location page. Love’s #262 lists CAT Scales among its amenities and says its store and truck care are open 24 hours. TA Glenrio lists CAT Scale among its amenities, but the only hours it prints are restaurant hours (some days just “Call For Hours”), so we leave its scale hours blank — it is a remote stop, so call ahead. Neither publishes a CAT-staffing schedule. Love’s #285 Santa Rosa does not list CAT Scales, and we found no Pilot Flying J store page for Tucumcari, so neither is here. Tucumcari to Glenrio (Exit 333 to Exit 369) is about 36 miles; west of Tucumcari, the next verified CAT is TA Santa Rosa (Exit 277). 2,000 lb floor. No corner weights. Weigh the whole rig, then drop the trailer and weigh the tow vehicle for the trailer number. Do not unload horses at a truck stop. New Mexico weighmaster rules differ from California — confirm ticket needs with your TO or licensing office. Use CAT’s locator for other stops.
Love’s own page says Store Open 24-hours and Truck Care Open 24-hours. CAT-staffing hours are not published separately.
Love’s own Tucumcari page lists CAT Scales among amenities; I-40 Exit 333 on the east side of Tucumcari (Quay County). CAT 2,000 lb floor; no corner weights. New Mexico weighmaster rules differ from California — confirm ticket needs with your TO or licensing office. Do not unload horses in the lot. Confirm on CAT’s locator. Not a DOT station.
TA’s page prints restaurant hours only (some days “Call For Hours”); no 24-hour store or CAT-staffing statement, so scale hours are left blank.
TA’s own Glenrio page lists CAT Scale among amenities; I-40 Exit 369 at the Texas line (Quay County), the last CAT stop we have verified before Texas. CAT 2,000 lb floor; no corner weights. New Mexico weighmaster rules differ from California — confirm ticket needs with your TO or licensing office. Remote stop: call ahead. Do not unload horses in the lot. Confirm on CAT’s locator. Not a DOT station.
New Mexico ports of entry on I-40 are for commercial vehicles — not a place to buy a civilian weighmaster ticket for a U-Haul, RV, boat, horse trailer, or PPM load. Follow posted signs; do not treat this directory as a bypass guide.
What we still need to verify
Any dedicated public scale house in Quay County with an operator page that sells walk-up weighmaster certificates. CAT-scale staffing hours at both stops, and TA Glenrio’s store hours. San Jon stops are unchecked. Texas stops east of Glenrio (Vega, Amarillo) are outside this page. Livestock policy everywhere.
